A councillor is sceptical that the green vision for the city will be possible by 2030
Glasgow’s hopes to reach net zero emissions by 2030 are being called into question as a meeting heard efforts need to double to reach the goal.
Councillor Stephen Docherty, Labour, asked if the “council is on track to meet its 2030 emissions target, given the Climate Change Committee’s scepticism about the credibility of the Scottish Government’s 2030 target?”Speaking at yesterday’s council meeting, SNP Councillor Angus Millar, convenor for climate, said emissions are already down but the council needs to team up with other organisations in partnership to achieve the goal.
He added: "There can be no doubt that reducing our carbon emissions is an increasingly challenging task especially as the amount of investment and infrastructure required to tackle the most difficult areas of emissions namely heat and transport is significantly beyond the means of Glasgow City Council alone.”
