Signs have gone up in areas across Glasgow proposing a permit banding system where drivers of gas-guzzling vehicles will pay more to park outside their homes.
Glasgow residents living in parking controlled areas look set to fork out more for their yearly permits unless they have a more environmentally-friendly car.
Some 10,000 residents currently have parking permits in Glasgow and will be affected across 21 parking zones, if the proposal goes ahead. “The possible introduction of carbon-based parking permits was originally put forward in Glasgow’s Transport Strategy as a way to support a shift to more sustainable forms of transport. Reducing the carbon output from our transport network is vital if Glasgow is to achieve its target of net zero carbon by 2030.
