A number of parking signs in Glasgow's west end mistakenly direct motorists to a local hospital instead of the correct cashless parking payment system.
Glasgow motorists may be left scratching their heads while trying to park in the city’s west end, thanks to a daft street signage blunder. Parking charges are a hot topic in the city, with plans to move to an emissions-based system that will see yearly permits double or triple for some car owners in 2025 - prompting many to hit out at the council that the move is a 'tax' on lower income households.
But if you’re paying for on-street parking by the hour, it’s unlikely you expect to be sent to the hospital for it… James Struthers contacted Glasgow Live to point out a major error on street signs just off Byres Road, directing motorists to pay by phone while quoting their location. The number listed may be a Glasgow one, but in fact it connects you to nearby Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital. Confused James said: “I called the number on the sign to pay for parking. The number on the sign connects you to Nuffield Hospital who don't have anything to do with the parking. Went to another sign and it's the same number and then went to another sign, same number. “Someone has made a booboo!” A quick search of the Glasgow City Council website shows the cashless parking number as 0141 530 3303 - and not 3803 as stated on street signs. How long the street signs have been misdirecting motorists remains unclear, but Glasgow Live has approached GCC for comment
