Funds will help afford daily meals, snacks, treat meals and recipe bag kits.
A childcare organisation in Cardonald has been given funding to help roll out an initiative to tackle 'holiday hunger' among children.
It comes following a successful pilot where 20 children attending the school were referred to the programme and 15 benefited from the scheme. The leadership team of Lourdes had identified several challenges pupils experience during the holiday period that hinders their progress and achievement at school where families are not financially able to provide a healthy meal for their child as a result of other financial pressures.
The allocation of new funding will allow 15 young people to receive one healthy meal per session, with the programme running twice a week from 10.30am until 2.30pm, and be provided with food related activity bags at least one per week to take home. Funds will also help afford daily meals, snacks, treat meals, recipe bag kits as well as outdoor utensils including waterproof jackets, bags, fleeces and bottles.
