Bins are now located on the street instead of back courts in Pollokshields, Haghill and Anderston - but there are concerns that the new system will cause flytipping and worse.

A Glasgow local has slammed a pilot scheme by the city council which moves bins shared by flat blocks from the rear of the property out onto public streets.

"It's a busy street so the bins are bound to be overfilled with rubbish from members of the public. I'm worried about the smell come hotter days and an increase in vermin on the streets. The new bins have replaced parking spaces outside the property, causing further issues for residents. Residents received a letter in the weeks prior to the new bins arriving. However, Jane added: "There was no follow-up on how we feel about it - no consultation at all. I believe there has been a few complaints made already, we aren't very happy.

“The pilot has been progressing well with more frequent bin collections, higher recycling rates, improved back courts and safer working for staff. “Installing the new bin hubs has allowed us to greatly expand the range of plastic and metal items that can go forward for recycling, but also separate paper and cardboard from other material so that its quality is protected for recycling.
