Glasgow City Council is proposing a new CO2 emissions-based banding system for parking permits, which would see drivers of 'gas guzzler' vehicles charged more while owners of greener cars pay less.
Glasgow residents living in parking controlled areas look set to fork out more for their yearly permits unless they have a more environmentally-friendly car.
Some 10,000 residents currently have parking permits in Glasgow and will be affected across 21 parking zones, if the proposal goes ahead. “The possible introduction of carbon-based parking permits was originally put forward in Glasgow’s Transport Strategy as a way to support a shift to more sustainable forms of transport. Reducing the carbon output from our transport network is vital if Glasgow is to achieve its target of net zero carbon by 2030.
