An eyewitness described seeing 'at least a dozen fire engines, response cars and ambulances' in Merchant City after firefighters were called to reports of chemical smell in the tenement building.

Firefighters raced to a tenement building in the city centre late Monday night after reports of a "chemical smell".

Specialist fire service resources were sent to the four-story tenement building. Firefighters found a burning smell coming from an electrical junction box on the second floor. Firefighters said they left the scene after handing over to Scottish Power. Glasgow Live has approached Scottish Power for more information.
