A GLASGOW road will be closed for more than three months.
West George Street will shut to traffic between Pitt Street and Holland Street from October 30, 2023, until February 2, 2024.Part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal's Avenues programme, the project aims to transform the city-centre streets to make them more"people-friendly" as well as greener and more sustainable.Working hours will be Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm.
The Avenues programme is primarily funded by the Scottish and UK governments with additional funding from developer contributions and Transportleader Susan Aitken said:"The work on the Holland Street Avenue will improve the streets here, creating a more attractive environment and making it easier for people to get around, so encouraging active travel.
Scottish Government business minister Ivan McKee said:"The Avenues programme is redesigning the city's streets, including Holland Street Avenue, to make them more inviting for people while prioritising space for cyclists, pedestrians and public transport.UK Government minister for Scotland Malcolm Offord added:"It's great news that work on Holland Street Avenue is set to begin.
