During yesterday’s full council meeting, councillor Sean Ferguson asked the council leader, Susan Aitken, how plans for the celebrations were progressing. Councillor Aitken said: “It is a really exciting opportunity to celebrate our city’s journey from being a small centre near the Clyde to the Glasgow of 2025 and to reflect on the key events and issues that has shaped the city we are now. “In looking back at the Glasgow 800 celebrations 50 years ago as a reference point not simply to see how we did it then but also as evidence of how much Glasgow has changed over those years. “We hope that this anniversary will provide an opportunity to reflect on the city’s growth, since 1975 when Glasgow 800 was held, to build and reflect on key areas and events that have shaped Glasgow today. “I think we have the opportunity to use Glasgow 2025 as an accelerator in the future. We have seen over the years the power of events and milestones to galvanise and energise the city and to generate pride and real change as well in our communities. “Glasgow 850 gives us another opportunity to bring the city together.
