Senior Armed Forces personnel joined representative Bailie Thomas Kerr to pay tribute at the opening of the city’s Garden of Remembrance today.
Glasgow 's Garden of Remembrance opened today , coinciding with the start of the Scottish poppy appeal launch.
They honoured the sacrifices made by servicemen and women past and present at the ceremony in George Square, highlighting the continued importance of remembrance and wearing a poppy. Dr Claire Armstrong, CEO of Legion Scotland, said: “The Garden of Remembrance ceremony is an important event in our calendar of Remembrance activities. Allowing everyone an opportunity to quietly reflect and demonstrate their gratitude for those who gave their lives in conflict to preserve our freedoms.”
Reverend Dr Karen Campbell, National Chaplain of Royal British Legion Scotland, led a short service of remembrance, with readings by the Lord Provost’s representative Bailie Thomas Kerr and Rear Admiral Mark Beverstock, National President of Poppyscotland and Legion Scotland, with music by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
