The scheme provides a free road closure for communities, allowing children to play safely in their local area. It had been growing in popularity prior to the covid pandemic.
The number of Glasgow street play days – allowing children to play safely in their local area – is set to double in 2024.
During the most recent environment committee, Councillor Jon Molyneux welcomed the move but reminded members that it was important to remember the benefits it will bring to each community.READ MORE: Cost of Glasgow parking permits could double for polluting cars under new proposal “It is also about getting residents to rethink their immediate public space and rethink the dominance of potential use for vehicles over other uses.”
Using school car free zones for Street Play areas is also being considered but applications that include commercial activity or a licence of some description are not allowed as part of the scheme.
