The revamp, which includes road and footway reconstruction, rain gardens and planting new trees, has been rumbling on for months as business owners have complained about a drop in footfall as pedestrians have avoided the historic leisure and shopping street.
Glasgow City Council has confirmed Sauchiehall Street will see 'significant reduction in fencing' but the £6 million work misery will not end by Christmas.
While council bosses say the project is 'progressing well' and areas will be opened to the public, it is understood some 'small' areas will continue to have fencing in place during the festive period to 'ensure public safety'. Funded by the Scottish and UK Governments through the £1billion City Deal infrastructure programme, the scheme will include rain gardens, 40 trees, new kerbing and lighting and road, pavement and footway reconstruction.
