Three days of strikes in school across Scotland will go ahead next week after a 'best and final' pay offer was rejected by a union. School staff including cleaners, janitors and school support assistants are due to walk out.

Glasgow's schools and nurseries will close next week for planned strike action after a "best and final" pay offer from council leaders was rejected.

The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities said the "significantly improved in-year offer" will mean workers on the Scottish local government living wage will see an in-year uplift of around £2,000, or almost 10 per cent. But Unison, one of three unions involved in the negotiations, said three days of strikes will go ahead next week as it has rejected the deal. School staff including cleaners, janitors and school support assistants are due to walk out for three days from Tuesday in the dispute over pay.

Unison said more than 21,000 members will take part in the co-ordinated action over three days from Tuesday September 26 to Thursday September 28. Members of the Unite and GMB Scotland unions will also take part in the action. Glasgow City Council previously issued a warning to local parents on Facebook, saying: "Industrial action has been called for 26,27, and 28 September and will affect schools and nurseries across the city. We will update you over the next few days on what establishments may need to close so you can make alternative plans for your children."
