Revive Eco received £375,000 in funding to commercialise its pioneering process that turns used coffee grounds into a “sustainable alternative” to palm oil

A Scots start-up on a mission to use “transformational” green technology to recycle food waste has revealed its plans to scale up after winning major investment. Revive Eco received £375,000 in funding to commercialise its pioneering process that turns used coffee grounds into a “sustainable alternative” to palm oil.

Mr Moore hailed the “huge opportunity” of the funding which he said would allow the fledgling company to ramp up from a lab-based project to an “industrial-scale process” and grow the team - such as by hiring more specialist engineers. The Scots business is set to begin trials for the scheme in the new year with several major brands across the UK and Europe. Around 500,000 tonnes of used coffee grounds are accrued in the UK every year, costing some £80 million in waste removal.
