Ellie was disheartened by the trolls after she shared her story online
A former Glasgow University student who was raped faced an onslaught of abuse from online trolls after sharing her experience on Twitter.
"This was the beginning of a cycle of abuse that lasted years. His friends and family knew but said no one would believe me. They were wrong. He spent New Year’s Day 2023 behind bars." New Year's Day is already a tough time for Ellie and the vile abuse from trolls have disheartened the courageous survivor.
Ellie waived her right to anonymity to expose the fact her attacker was able to transfer to Edinburgh University whilst under investigation. Many have pointed the finger at social media companies, asking for more tools to be put in place to stop the unidentifiable trolls. "In general I think it's about societal change, I do think society is starting to change slowly, but on the other hand look at Andrew Tate and how popular they are.
