Rutherglen Glencairn salvaged a point against Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in a West of Scotland First Division match, despite putting in their worst performance of the season.
Joe Pryce insists his Rutherglen Glencairn side stole a point against Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Saturday with two late goals. Glens fought back from 2-0 down at Kirkintilloch Sports Complex with two strikes in as many stoppage-time minutes through Scott Jarvie’s penalty and a Lewis McTaggart strike.
Pryce reckons that was Glencairn’s worst performance of the season so far as they continued a run that has seen them draw three and lose one of their last four West of Scotland First Division matches. But he also says if that’s a wobble, it leaves them in a decent position. “It could be worse, we could have come out of the games with no points,” said Pryce, “and at least we’re picking up something and keeping the scoreboard ticking over. “But I was really disappointed with the performance level that we showed. It was as poor as we’ve been.” Glencairn went close and keeper Kyle Aitken produced good saves to deny Jack McIlveen, Ross Paton and Allan Woodhouse, while Rob Roy hit the bar through a Michael Baber header, with Shaun Kennedy firing wide. Jake Stirling broke the deadlock in 52 minutes as he headed in from a corner, and after Sean McGuire handled 10 minutes later, Jordan Pirrie doubled their lead from the spot. Ryan McManus was tripped in the Rob Roy penalty area in the 90th minute and Jarvie netted the penalty, before McTaggart fired home from six yards out to snatch a point. Pryce said: “Fair play to Rob Roy, I thought they were excellent, they were the better team for probably 90 minutes. “We were second-best all over the park, it was a really poor performance from us, but the lads showed good character just to stay in the game. “They never gave it up, and although they knew themselves they weren’t delivering their best performance, they hung in, and in the end probably stole a poin
