Glentoran host Crusaders in the opening game of the 2024/25 Irish Premiership season
It has been another summer of transition for Glentoran as they bid to build a squad capable of challenging for honours. Declan Devine is determined to put his stamp on the club after coming in at the tail end of last season. The departures from The Oval have been into double figures with high profile names such as Aaron McCarey, Luke McCullough, Rhys Marshall and Shay McCartan all moving on.
“Paddy has played at the highest level possible and Declan has that managerial experience, they understand full-time football and all I ever ask for is things to be professional and done right. We seem to be on the right road and long may that continue. “I’ve been in a full-time environment throughout my career and the boys are seeing what it’s like to be full-time. We have long days, we don’t leave the training ground until about 4pm every day which might be a shock to some. Everyone is used to it now and we have done a lot of work in pre-season.
“We can only build on what we served up last year – it wasn’t good enough for me personally or the club and hopefully this year is better."
