“There was this big, collective excitement at the beginning of the year, like maybe finally four years down the road we're back to normal, and it's going to be smooth sailing.' -Denali Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vanessa Jusczak

The Riley Fire burns late Sunday night near the entrance to Denali National Park in Alaska.Updated: 46 minutes ago

The Tanana Chiefs and Alta Interagency Hotshot crews are working westward from the southern edge of the fire, and three other hotshot crews are building an indirect sawline through the alder and birch, according to a Friday update. Without access to electricity, some businesses, like restaurants, shut down completely; others, like tour companies, were able to adjust operations to cope with the lack of power.

But the fire, park closure and power outage have put a dent in some of that optimism, according to Jusczak. The blaze has forced some evacuations, about 90 people in all, including employees housed at the Denali National Park Joint Venture facility. Tri-Valley Community Center has been established as the Evacuation Information Center.
