Filipino nurses working in California hospitals have expressed fear for the huge impact of the ongoing global computer software outage.Merly , an Ilocana, said she is not authorized to talk to the media but she confirmed the chaos at her hospital in Bakersfield in central California.“We had to divert stroke alerts to another hospital with in-person radiologist that can read CT and x-rays, and we cancelled all surgeries. Can’t imagine the lives of our patients impacted here.
“Our computers are down just now, nothing to do,” Cathy Ronda told GMA Integrated News. Both Merly and Ronda received notices that they’re back to recording hospital data on paper “for security and safety reasons.”Based on recent data from the University of California, close to 20 percent of nurses working in the state’s hospitals are Filipinos.
