Greater Manchester Police said it has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct over previous contact with Bradford stabbing victim Kulsuma Akter and suspect Habibur Masum.

The manhunt for Masum continues, and anyone with information is being urged to contact West Yorkshire Police. The 25-year-old is from Oldham and has links to Burnley and Chester. Officers have since issued CCTV of him wearing a duffle coat with three large horizontal lines of grey, white and black, light blue or grey tracksuit bottoms with a small black emblem on the left pocket and maroon trainers.
Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Enquiry Team, said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident in which a mother has lost her life in the most horrific of circumstances.
