Former Spurs scout Mick Brown believes Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey could be a solution for Tottenham's defensive issues.
Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey could be a short-term solution for Tottenham 's defensive problems before the January transfer window. Former Spurs scout Mick Brown, who is well-connected at the club and has experience in player recruitment, exclusively told Football Insider that Tottenham have contacted the Serie A side about a potential six-month loan deal for the former Everton player.
The 26-year-old moved from Merseyside to Bergamo in the summer but has only made five appearances and is reportedly keen on returning to England. Tottenham's interest stems from a defensive injury crisis that has sidelined Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, forcing 18-year-old Archie Gray to play center-back. Godfrey's versatility across the backline makes him a suitable candidate as a short-term fix for Ange Postecoglou's team. Brown explained that a permanent signing would be unnecessary as Romero and Van de Ven will remain the first-choice pairing upon their return. He mentioned that spending a large sum on a new defender would be pointless as they wouldn't be utilized regularly. The former scout, who has extensive experience in player recruitment and development at the top level during his time at Manchester United, believes Godfrey's availability presents an ideal opportunity for Spurs
