A Victorian father and grandfather who drowned in a Gold Coast hotel pool while attempting to rescue a two-year-old girl have been identified.
Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor Mitchell Ware said the toddler was playing near the edge of the pool when she fell in just before 7pm on Easter Sunday.“It’s believed that that child has lost their footing, causing them to fall into a deeper part of the pool, at which point the two male patients then entered the pool in an attempt to rescue that child and found themselves in trouble at the pool,” Mr Ware said.
In a desperate bid to save the toddler, the mother rushed into the pool and both she and her daughter were able to get to safety, but the two male family members did not survive the rescue attempt.
