Langdale Free School in Blackpool rated 'Good' by Ofsted to close down as bosses blame pupil numbers
A Blackpool primary school will close down at the end of the summer term with bosses blaming pupil numbers and the size of the building.
The school previously hit the headlines when it was told to "take urgent action" to resolve financial management failings which included recording a deficit which was £226,000 larger than had been budgeted and a controversy surrounding staff being sent to Ibiza for a meeting. An Education and Skills Funding Agency review at the time raised "serious concerns" over the school's long-term viability.
There will now be a four week process during which interested parties will have the opportunity to provide their views and be given further information. At the end of that period, the school will consider those views and set them out for the secretary of state who will then make the final decision on the school’s closure.
