Eddie Jones’ controversial return to the Wallabies is officially over as Rugby Australia finally confirmed his expected resignation on Tuesday morning.
The announcement confirms months of speculation Jones would ditch the Wallabies after Australia's first Rugby World Cup group stage exit.
“Good Riddance to this clown Head Coach Eddie Jones, running away instead of building up smh . Just good at saying dumb riddles and having poor team selections that got the Wallabies nowhere. The Wallabies have the talent, they just need a coach with the proper approach,” wrote one on X, formerly Twitter.
RA suddenly sacked former coach Dave Rennie late last year with Jones suddenly announced as the new mentor in January. “Rugby Australia thanks Eddie for his commitment to the Wallabies in 2023, and wishes him the best in his future endeavours. Announcements regarding the future of the Wallabies coaching staff will be made in due course.”
RA chairman Hamish McLennan has also come under fire for a lack of transparency about the decision to hire Jones and an apparent obliviousness to his reported dealings with Japan. “You know I was committed to change the team. Rugby Australia at the moment can’t activate the resources which are both financial and political to get the change in place to make real change to Australian rugby.”
