Google Chrome has reportedly been targetted by criminals who inject malicious codes into browsder extensions, which allows the crooks to steal user date and commit scams.
Millions of Google Chrome customers have been issued a warning about 16 browser extensions which have been compromised by hackers. It's believed 3.2 million users should delete the browsers immediately as cybersecurity experts have found hackers are scamming people with them, reports the Mirror. The criminals inject malicious codes into the extensions to steal user data and commit 'search engine fraud' - a scam which drives clicks to hacker-controlled websites for ad revenue.
However, it's understood Chrome has deleted the extensions from its Web Store this morning. The team from GitLab Threat Intelligence, which uncovered the shocking scheme, said the best way to avoid a hijacked browser extension is to vet the programs you're installing on your computer and read any reviews which warn about potential dangers.
