Google Maps sleuths believe they have discovered a secret 'door' in Antarctica.
Reddit users have been sharing their theories about the supposed door For centuries, Antarctica’s unexplored barren landscapes have been a source for conspiracies, sometimes so far fetched that even Jules Verne would raise an eyebrow. From a theory that Adolf Hitler survived after World War Two in a base under the ice, to another suggesting Antarctica is a wall that surrounds the Earth. Both have been debunked by scientists, but in the age of the Internet and social media, all is fair game.
According to the coordinates, it is just a few hundred meters from Japan’s Showa Station, a permanent research base on East Ongul Island in Queen Maud Land. The Showa Station comprises more than 60 separate buildings, including living quarters, a power plant, sewage treatment facility, observatory and satellite building. Also present are fuel tanks, water storage, solar panels, a heliport, water retention dam, and radio transmitter.
