Anthony Gordon insists he was always going to pick England over Scotland.
The Newcastle United winger is in Gareth Southgate's A team squad ahead of their two friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium.Steve Clarke is known to be an admirer of the former Everton attacker, with the play eligible to play for Scotland via the grandparent rule.
However, with Gordon training with England, it seems he's ready for his first national team cap - a moment he's been craving all his life. “It was never a thought for me," he said. "That’s no disrespect to Scotland, that’s all. I’ve been tunnel-visioned on playing for England since I was five or six years old."Like I said, it is just a dream I’ve had from so young so nothing else has ever entered my mind at any time.”His teammates Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento can all turn out in dark blue colours at Hampden too.
"We are more or less settled. Unless we find somebody who is like ‘wow’, an outstanding player. I am not going to go down this street of Anderson and Gordon and all this lot because I have had enough of that, I am sick of talking about that."Readers’ comments: You are personally liable for the content of any comments you upload to this website, so please act responsibly.
