It has buildings which look like they're from a fairytale and cosy cafe named among the best in the Lake District
Without a doubt the Lake District is a beautiful place to visit during the autumn months. Its woodland areas blaze with autumnal colours and the lakes are particularly magical on misty mornings.
People have taken to TikTok to share how perfect the Lake District is at this time of year; there are dozens of videos with the caption “this is your sign to visit the Lake District in autumn”. One of the locations which pops up again and again is Ambleside, a town located at the northern end of Windermere.This quaint town features stunning grey-slate buildings, a lot of which date back to the Victorian era.
It was originally built by the Braithwaite family as a store for their apples. Throughout the centuries it has been used as a tea-room, cobblers, chair maker’s and at one time was home to a family of eight. In the 1920s it was donated to the National Trust and today it’s open for select days over the year.
One Tik Tok user @beckielees described it as a “must visit local bakery” and the cafe was even named by the Guardian in its list of the best restaurants in and around the Lake District, alongside Simon Rogan’s Cartmel-based Rogan & Co, and The Forest Side in Grasmere. It first opened in 1975 and even offers B&B rooms next door if you’re after a place to stay.
