Gotham FC sign U.S. YNT forward McKenna “Mak” Whitham through 2028 via the NWSL’s U-18 Entry Mechanism
NJ/NY Gotham FC made history Friday by signing 13-year-old McKenna "Mak" Whitham through 2028 via the NWSL ’s U-18 entry mechanism.
The move makes Whitham the youngest player ever to sign a deal in the NWSL. The contract kicks in on Jan. 1, 2025. Gotham FC has also secured a national team replacement contract for the young star, allowing her to potentially see game time for the club during international breaks.The signing of Whitham marks a significant moment for women's soccer particularly in the NWSL.
“Mak has worked incredibly hard at training and has earned this opportunity,” said Gotham FC head coach Juan Carlos Amorós. “This is an important next step for Mak and the club, as we look to build for the future.”Whitham became the youngest athlete in any sport to sign a name, image and likeness deal with Nike earlier this year.
Whitham has previously trained with other NWSL teams, such as the Kansas City Current and Washington Spirit. The forward also spent time training with Los Angeles FC 2010 boys academy in MLS Next. From California, she has also showcased her talent on the international stage, representing the U.S. youth national team.Gotham FC will be eager to integrate the young forward into their squad.
