Tough new anti-smoking rules would shut down smoking areas in many places - including outside pubs
Smoking is to be banned in more public places under new plans being drawn up by the Government, according to reports. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which was announced before the election, has been toughened by the new Labour Government, according to The Sun. The paper says leaked Whitehall documents show the Government plans to ban smoking outside pubs - as well as the current inside ban.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer revived the Bill following Labour’s victory at the July 4 vote. Dr Penelope Toff, chair of the BMA’s public health medicine committee, called on the current Government “to go even further” than the plans outlined by Mr Sunak. She described the BMA report – Taking our breath away: why we need stronger regulation of vapes – as a “blueprint” of the actions that should be taken by ministers.
