A national anti-scams centre is being established to help combat scams and online fraud, after Australians reported losing billions of dollars to fraudsters last year.

ACCC deputy chair says new initiative allows organisations to work as one

He has been asked about how the government will collaborate with the private sector to protect consumers from scams."We're going to lift it up to a whole new scale to ensure that when the Commonwealth, through any of its regulatory agencies or law enforcement, receives information, that it is shared through the National Anti-scam Centre, through trusted protocols."

"We're encouraging Australians to report it. If you think you have been scammed, report it, because if they have attacked you, they're probably going to attack somebody else," he says. Mr Jones says calls and SMS messages from someone pretending to be a bank or government agency will be blocked under the new caller ID registry.
