Judge Gabrielle Wolohojian's nomination to the state's highest court has drawn public scrutiny because of her past personal relationship with Gov. Maura Healey. The governor and the judge shared a home in Charlestown for several years.

The council voted 6-1 to confirm the nomination, with Councilor Tara Jacobs of North Adams casting the lone vote of dissent. Members of the Governor's Council, an elected panel with final approval power over judgeships, heaped praise on Wolohojian's professional track record at a public interview on Feb. 21 and largely avoided delving into the past relationship between Healey and Wolohojian.
"The entire process appears to have been a rubber stamp rather than a serious examination of important ethical considerations," she said in the statement."Governor Healey's search committee, from the outset, consisted of a tight-knit inner circle. Many legal scholars continue to believe that it is wholly inappropriate for a governor to nominate a former romantic partner to a court that will rule on matters pertaining to their office.
