Analyzing the potential of former Duke Blue Devil Graham Barton as a late Day 1/early Day 2 option in the NFL Draft. Barton's exceptional athleticism and skills make him a strong contender for the offensive line position.
Despite not being a sexy pick, addressing the interior of the offensive line seems like one of the smartest ways to approach the first round of the NFL Draft. In recent years we’ve seen the likes of Chris Lindstrom, Quenton Nelson, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and Tyler Linderbaum all go at some point on Day 1. Like any position, there are going to be misses, but the hit rate seems more impactful and frequent than nearly any other position in the draft.
We traditionally hear it with smaller measurable college tackles—Rashawn Slater and Jonah Williams come to mind—and Barton fits that bill. Yes he’s 6’5, but his arms are just 32.875 inches, an ⅛ of an inch shorter than Slater’s. The former Northwestern Wildcat is able to make up for his below-average arm length with speed and an ability to mirror edges. Barton does struggle to block to his outside shoulder in pass protection.
