A 75-year-old grandmother has been left unable to sleep in her bedroom after housing association contractors ripped out her ceiling to deal with a leak. Isabella Fields, from Glasgow, was told to clear her room of furniture and was informed it would be months before the ceiling was replaced. The work, which was carried out by a contractor for River Clyde Homes, has left Ms Fields and her grandchildren severely inconvenienced.

A gran has been left unable to sleep in her bedroom - after housing association contractors ripped out her ceiling.

"I was told to clear my room of furniture. What am I supposed to do? Where am I supposed to sleep?" Isabella has been the guardian of four of her grandchildren since her daughter Julie tragically died in 2009 of Huntingdon's disease. She said: "They had no right to take the ceiling down if they couldn't fix it, they should have waited until the 8th February. I don't even know if it was taken down for asbestos or the leak. I've been left in the dark.

"It's freezing, I've the heating on constantly, are River Clyde Homes going to pay for the heating? It smells really damp as well, the insulation is hanging from the ceiling. It's ridiculous in this day and age." A spokesman for River Clyde Homes says that the contractor offered to put up plastic sheeting over the ceiling but that Isabella refused.
