Graham Casey, a 63-year-old from Bearsden, was diagnosed with incurable myeloma in 2022. After initially experiencing back pain, he received a life-saving stem cell transplant in August 2023 and is now in remission.

A Bearsden grandad who underwent life-saving cancer surgery is set to celebrate his first proper Christmas with his family in two years. Graham Casey was 63 when he was diagnosed with myeloma, an incurable blood cancer which affects more than 2,000 people in Scotland, in October 2022. Upon his return to Scotland, Graham consulted his GP who got in touch with an orthopaedic consultant. He was told it was likely just muscle pain and advised to take muscle relaxants and painkillers. However, he fell seriously ill and was diagnosed with Covid and remained in intensive care for some time. While in hospital, a blood test picked up signs of cancer. The retired businessman said: 'When I heard the word ‘cancer’, it was a major shock. When they said it wasn’t curable the panic set in. 'The consultant who told me presumed that somebody had already told me that they suspected myeloma but no one had. My mind was racing with a million questions. 'That’s when they explained that there was no cure for myeloma but there were treatments. There was a spell in hospital where I looked at a photo of my grandsons and I thought for a second about all the things I might not get to see. It was upsetting.' Unfortunately, his first round of chemotherapy failed to keep his cancer in check. He was switched to another treatment before receiving a life-saving stem cell transplant in August 2023. He has been in remission ever since. Dad-of-two Graham added: 'My whole mindset changed
