An elderly grandfather told a 999 dispatcher ‘send the undertaker’ as he lay dying for five hours waiting for an ambulance.
Kenneth Shadbolt, 94, rang the emergency services after accidentally falling in his Chipping Campden home in the Cotswolds on March 24.
One patient waited 26 hours for an ambulance in September as 400 patients and workers waited for more than three hours outside a hospital. The handler replied: ‘We are extremely busy at the moment but we are working on getting that help to you as quickly as we possibly can, ok?’ ‘They cause significant harm to patients who are forced to wait in the back of our ambulances, while those resources are tied up and therefore unable to respond to patients who need us out in the community,’ he said.
