Unite said the decision by Petroineos to cease refining operations at Grangemouth in spring 2025 was an act of 'industrial vandalism'.
Workers set to lose their jobs at Scotland's last remaining oil refinery have been "failed" by both the Scottish and UK Governments, a union has claimed.
A replacement fuels import terminal planned for the site will require just 75 staff - meaning more than 400 workers refinery workers are set to be made redundant over the next two years. "This dedicated workforce has been let down by PetroIneos and by the politicians in Westminster and Holyrood who have failed to guarantee production until alternative jobs are in place.
"This is yet another example of workers paying for a crisis they did not create while billionaire owners laugh all the way to the bank." "The governments involved cannot simply hide behind the convenient smokescreen that this is a commercial decision which they couldn’t influence.”
