In defence, Sergio Gomez could be the most senior player in Guardiola's squad, unless he secures a move away from the club before that. Loanee Issa Kabore could get a chance to impress Guardiola after a productive season at Luton, with academy trio Max Alleyne, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Kian Noble all options at centre-back.
Rico Lewis is not with England so could play at right-back, or could also be utilised in his preferred midfield positions. Kalvin Phillips appears to have no future at City, but as long as he remains on their books he would travel to the US for pre-season. Guardiola said that Joao Cancelo would be in the summer squad if his future is not resolved, so the same will presumably be true of Phillips. Cancelo is likely to be resting, however, after representing Portugal over the summer.
James McAtee, impressive during last summer's tour before heading out on loan, will hope to show Guardiola what he can offer after another season at Sheffield United, and can rotate with Bobb between the wing and central areas. Both City and McAtee will have to make the decision of whether to fight for his place at the Etihad or seek another loan move.
