Warriors fan favourite Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is the NRL’s joint top try-scorer despite missing the first six games of the season.
The only thing more remarkable than Dallin Watene-Zelezniak’s haircut is the fact he sits joint top of the NRL try-scoring leaderboard despite having missed the opening six rounds of the season through injury.
“It’s easy to forget Dallin spent time in reserve grade,” Warriors coach Andrew Webster told this masthead. “He did his hammy on tour with the Kiwis at the World Cup, had a disrupted pre-season, he hardly got any reps in, and just when he started to build some momentum, he did his calf in the trials.“Marcelo Montoya and Edward Kosi were playing great footy, but Dallin always maintained an excellent attitude. He only played the one game in reggies, scored four tries, and was straight back in.
“The scoring is great, but as a winger you get into a lot of situations where you’re outnumbered, you need to find way to stop them, and he’s done that – that’s the most exciting part for me.”Watene-Zelezniak has a cult following because of his luxuriant mullet, a style Webster – who is more a short-back-and-sides man – says he would not dare try to adopt.
