Whether to vote yes or no on Proposition 'a' in the May 7 special election was debated at the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

They, however, also asked whether or not the community values strong schools. The answer to that was yes and it was a value shared by the opposition. But with large deficits looming over the local school district, the closing of schools and increases to class sizes have become a great concern in and around Fairbanks. An increase to taxes is also a concern.
One of the points made by Dulian was a reduction to the tax cap enacted by the Borough Assembly in 2023, which reduced available funding, as well as thewhich would have raised the base student allocation by $680. “That would have given us an additional $8 million,” she said. On the flip side of the argument was Aaron Lojewski, a former member of the Borough Assembly and Joshua Church from Citizens for Transparent Government.
