Heavy rain and strong winds are expected with Storm Bert and are predicted to cause disruption across the region this weekend
A Greater Manchester fire festival and light switch-on event has been partially cancelled at the last minute due to 'severe' weather.
However, this afternoon, organisers at Rochdale Borough Council have cancelled the fire festival events on Friday and Saturday, due to the weather. In a statement, the council cited potential for strong winds and heavy rain due to Storm Bert, which will hit the region over the next few days.
Councillor Sue Smith, cabinet member for communities and co-operation at Rochdale Borough Council said: “We’re very sorry to have taken the decision to cancel the first two evenings of Ignite Fire Festival due to the freezing temperatures and forecast of heavy rain and strong winds. Co-curated by award-winning arts specialists Walk The Plank, the free, family-friendly events have been curated to include a fire dancing and juggling show featuring performers, including Flame Oz, Bring the Fire Project, and Travelling Light Circus.
