Green Day has a history of drawing the ire of conservatives for its clear opposition to Trump. X owner Elon Musk in Januaryout the group for changing a lyric in 2004 hit “American Idiot” from “I’m not a part of the redneck agenda" to "I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda” in a nod to the "Make America Great Again" movement popularized by Trump.
“Green Day goes from raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it ,” Musk wrote on X.referencing civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. while blasting Trump with a caricature poking fun at his hair and teeth. “A new day dawning / Comes without warning / So don’t think twice / We live in troubled times,” the song’s lyrics include.another "American Idiot" lyric to jab the former president, turning the line “the subliminal mind f--- America” to “the subliminal mind Trump America,” according to Entertainment Weekly. The song is believed to have been originally written to criticize former President George W. Bush.
