Glasgow City Council approves signage for a new Greggs bakery planned for the former RBS building on Sauchiehall Street.

Plans for a new Greggs bakery on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow are progressing as signage approval has been granted. The popular bakery chain aims to occupy the former Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) branch at 393 Sauchiehall Street. Glasgow City Council gave the green light yesterday for the installation of signage at the former bank premises. This follows the approval of external work on the building last month for the B-listed property located in the central conservation area.

A council report on the application stated: 'The proposed external alterations are not considered to detrimentally harm the existing character of the building. The proposed alterations are considered to preserve the architectural character and special interest of the conservation area and are consistent with the requirements of Scottish guidance - National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4) as well as the city development plan.' This new location will add to Greggs' existing presence on Sauchiehall Street, where they already operate a branch at 197 Sauchiehall Street. The bakery chain has also recently expanded its footprint in the city with new branches opening at Central Station and Queen Street Station
