A Russian court has set WNBA star Brittney Griner's criminal trial for July 1, The Associated Press reported Monday. Griner is under criminal investigation for “large-scale transportation of drugs,” which can carry a sentence of up to 10 years.
, Griner's WNBA team, met about her ongoing detention on June 13, but no details were released from the meeting.on "Good Morning America" on May 25, asking the government to follow through on its promise Griner's release is a priority.
“I just keep hearing that he has the power,” Cherelle Griner told “GMA’s” Robin Roberts in May. “She’s a political pawn so if they’re holding her because they want you to do something, then I want you to do it.”
