The Guards did not awaken until the 10th inning when they scored twice to beat the Tigers, 9-8.
Emmanuel Clase earned his 28th save by retiring Justyn-Henry Malloy on a fly ball to center with runners on first and third in the 10th. The Guards pushed the lead to 6-0 with three more runs in the sixth. It could have been a bigger inning as Cleveland sent nine men to the plate, but at the time a 6-0 lead seemed comfortable. Detroit’s bullpen cooled the Guardians’ offense after replacing Maeda. The Guardians did manage to squeeze out a run in the sixth as Hedges scored on a bases-loaded ground out by Josh Naylor for a 7-3 lead.Keith opened with sixth with a single to left. Riley Greene lined a shot off Lively’s right ankle. It deflected to third base where Ramirez threw Greene out at first, but the game was about to change.
