Tuesday’s clash was much closer than the Guardians would have hoped. After giving up a first inning homer, Carlos Carrasco settled in for the next four innings before giving up a two-run jack to tie the contest in the 6th inning. Carrasco got out of the inning, and Cleveland jumped back out in front in the bottom half of the inning, accentuated by a two-run blast of their own.
The Guardians look to take control of the series behind Gavin Williams, who toes the rubber for Wednesday’s game. Over 16 starts in his rookie campaign, Williams boasts a 3.29 ERA while fanning 81 batters over 82 innings pitched.Naylor was 0 for 4 as a pinch-hitter before he skied Michael Kopech’s 3-2 pitch to center fielder Luis Robert Jr. Robert, back peddling as he made the catch, didn’t even make a throw home.
The Guardians had lost four of their last five games before Tuesday. They are 4-4 against the AL Central cellar-dwelling White Sox.
