After facing five consecutive playoff contenders in his first five big league starts, Cleveland's rookie left-hander will get a shot at the lowly White Sox.
The Guardians will recall LHP Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus to start Monday's series opener against the White Sox in Chicago.LOS ANGELES — After facing five playoff contenders in his first five major league appearances, Joey Cantillo will likely welcome the opportunity to start against the team with baseball’s worst record.
The Guardians did not immediately announce a move to get Cantillo on the active roster. Cleveland added left-hander Anthony Gose prior to Sunday’s game after designating righty Scott Barlow for assignment. Gose has already been released by Cleveland three times this season, and has re-signed with the club each time.
The availabilty of righty Alex Cobb also could factor into who starts the remaining two games against the White Sox. Cobb missed his scheduled start Saturday with a blister on his middle finger. The same injury delayed Cobb’s debut with Cleveland after he was acquired at the trade deadline from San Francisco.
