A Guatemalan man was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury after he was accused of kidnapping a girl in New Jersey and then taking her to Georgia to sexually assault her, authorities said.
Sergio Gomez, also known as “Abner Abigail Chub-Choc,” 22, was charged with enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, transportation of a minor to engage in sexual activity, and kidnapping, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey announced Thursday. Gomez used the internet and a cellphone to entice the 14-year-old girl to meet him for sex, authorities alleged. On July 30, 2023, he arrived in Cape May County and took the girl with him to Georgia, the office said.
The girl was reported missing from Middle Township at 1:30 p.m. the following day, prompting a search that involved the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the FBI, and police in Georgia, police said.Police in Georgia arrested Gomez and another man in Acworth. The two men were charged with luring the child and conspiracy to lure a child, both second-degree felonies.
The other man was not mentioned by federal prosecutors but was identified by police last year as Yester R. Montecillos-Vazquez. He was also charged at the time with luring the child and conspiracy to lure a child.
