James Witham claimed he had been feeling 'belittled' and was intoxicated when he decided to attack Ashley's home
The man who killed Ashley Dale in her home described the moment he opened fire as he gave evidence in court for the first time.
Witham, a self-confessed Class A drug dealer who sold heroin and crack cocaine in North Wales, Blackpool and Scotland, told the jury he had fallen out with Harrison because he "had been robbing me for years". Under questioning from his barrister Richard Pratt, KC, Witham told the jury: "He owed me money once. He went missing for years. I found out he’s robbed me mate’s house, he’s robbed me crop and he’s tried to rob me graft in Wales as well.
"I’m 41 years of age, I can do what I want. It made me feel, in front of people I had only just started speaking to as well. Belittled me basically." Witham replied: “I dunno, I just chilled for a minute, had a spliff, had a line, had a bottle of vodka and drove to Leinster Road. I was drinking out a bottle of vodka yeah."
When asked what he did after setting off the car alarm, he said: "Waited for a couple of seconds. After what my mate had told me, I just drove there to Stadt Moers Park." Mr Pratt asked: "It's been suggested you pursued her through the house?” Witham replied: “That's bulls***." He was asked: "Did you have any reason to hurt or kill Ashley Dale?”
