Thousands of residents in western Washington were left without power due to high winds on Thursday.

FILE – Seattle City Light crews work to restore power in a neighborhood after gusty winds blew through the Puget Sound region. A weather system brought strong winds to western Washington Thursday, knocking power out for thousands across the region.

The National Weather Service reported wind gusts as high as 38 mph in Seattle around 12:30 p.m. Thursday and gusts around 36 mph were reported in the Renton area. The weather service said gusts between 21-29 mph were also reported across most of western Washington early Thursday afternoon.at around 16,000 customers were without power just before noon Thursday, but most of the outages were resolved by Friday morning..

"Light showers keep conditions damp on Sunday as daylight saving time ends, and we turn the clock back one hour," Clark said. "With the sun setting within the 4 o'clock hour, the seasonal gray will be extra dark as the Pacific storm train continues the theme of wet and windy weather early next week."
